In Relaxation, Stress

he arrival of fall also marks the start of the Vata season. In the tradition of Ayurvedic medicine, Vata is one of the three doshas, or types of life forces, that make us who we are.

The connection between our environment and our health is well recognized in Ayurveda. Ayurveda links the universal elements (earth, fire, air, water and space) to the doshas. Vata is composed of space and air. The Vata energy that is associated with autumn is characterized as being dry, light, irregular, cold and rough.

With the seasonal shift, your body may be responding to the excess vata with a number of symptoms: anxiety, overwhelmedness, forgetfulness, stiffness, insomnia, unstable moods and energy levels.

Essential oils can help balance the excess vata. An excellent choice is the pairing of wild orange and cardamom – one is light and the other is heavy, so together they help achieve the desired balance.
